39th Evening of Jazz Rescheduled for March 22

2018 Haverford Evening of Jazz

Don't miss the HHS Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Lab Band and Jazz Combo, or the HMS Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Fords! Music begins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22. Artist-in-residence Gary Smulyan, baritone saxophone, will perform with the ensembles. The famous dessert buffet will be open during intermission.

Advance-sale, dicounted tickets — $10 for adults, $5 seniors/students, $25 family pack — are available until Wednesday, March 21 by the end of the school day. Download the ticket order form, which contains complete ordering information.

At the door, tickets are $12 and $6 for students/senior citizens. Pre-ordered tickets will be sent home with your musician. All proceeds from this evening benefit the Haverford School District Jazz program.

Artist-in-residence Gary Smulyan is a six-time Grammy award winner for his work with B.B. King, Joe Lovano, the Dave Holland Octet and Big Band, and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Smuylan currently has 12 albums out under his own name including "Alternative Contrafacts" to be released in February 2018. He has performed and/or recorded with: Woody Herman's Young Thundering Herd, The Mingus Big Band, The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Chick Corea, George Coleman, Tito Puente, Ray Charles, and Diana Ross.

Sign up today for the BOPs email list for 2017-18. BOPs asks you to sign up each year so all information – your child's grade, performance groups and your email address – are up to date. Complete instructions are at the top of the sign-up page.

Volunteer Clearance Process Now Easier, Cheaper

The district's requirements for volunteer clearances is now simpler and may be less expensive.

Concert Broadcasts

Did you miss the winter concert for your child's ensemble? Taped concerts are available on-demand at the school district's website. Choose the Concerts folder from the drop-down menu near the top of the page. Performacess are also broadcast on the district's cable channel (Verizon 40, Comcast 8); check out the schedule on the district's website.

Facebook users, we post photos taken at events HHS Music Facebook page. Simply like our HHS Music page and you'll be informed when new photos are posted. To download any of the photos, click on the image on your newsfeed. At the bottom of the larger image, look for "Options" in white type. Click on Options and a menu will pop up. Choose "Download" and save it to your computer from there.
